Many varieties exist within this series, but none match the rarity and appeal of the 1839/6 Coronet Head Cent (Buy on eBay). The overdate is bold and clear, making the pieces readily identifiable and adding to the allure of the variety.
Very few examples have survived in high grade, with even heavily circulated examples somewhat scarce. The major grading services have only certified a handful of pieces in AU grades, and only a single piece in mint state. This example graded PCGS MS-65+ Brown most recently sold for $376,000 in 2017.
